Lytro Accessories: Viewpoint Labs announces 37mm Filter Adapter
Lytro camera accessories are still pretty rare: There is a selection of official accessories by the company that sells the LightField cameras (Tripod Adapter, Quick Charger, Camera Sleeve/Case), but that’s about it. (Unless you count Micro-USB cables that have the term Lytro in their description text. ;) )
Viewpoint Laboratories is (to our knowledge) the first third-party company to launch a camera accessory that’s been designed specifically for the Lytro LightField Camera: a 37 mm filter adapter that allows us to use standard photography filters, close-up lenses, and step-up/down rings in conjunction with the LightField camera. According to Viewpoint Labs, the 37 mm diameter provides enough aperture for vignetting-free images. It’s made from aluminum with 4 embedded high-strength neodymium magnets, which make it stick to your camera just like the lenscap does.
The filter adapter will be available in the US for 49.99 $ on December 14, 2012. The company told us that international shipping is in the works.
Pre-orders are already open on Amazon: 37mm Filter Adapter for Lytro Light Field Camera
It will be interesting to see how much weight Viewpoint’s 14 g (0.5 ounce) filter adapter can hold firmly, and how the adapter holds up in combination with Lytro’s new Perspective Shift feature. We’ve reached out to the company for a sample unit, and will keep you posted.

Bummer! Amazon.com will not ship to Canada!!!!!!!! Amazon.ca does not carry the filter adapter. Pooh!!!!! … I think I will build my own filter adapter instead….. :( ;( Not happy.
Peter, I’m assuming that a mail forwarding service won’t be too expensive when shipping to Canada. Details here: http://bit.ly/yQ53wg#mailforwarding
Thanks Markus. I just fabricated my own filter holder cost me $5.
