Viewpoint Laboratories presents OverDome Light Diffusing “Cloud Dome” for Lytro Illum

Viewpoint Laboratories has recently introduced what we believe to be the first third-party accessory for the Lytro Illum: the new “OverDome Light Diffusing Photography Enclosure” (i.e. cloud dome) for the Illum light field camera allows users to record well-lit, largely shadow-free closeup pictures by scattering light through a translucent, white acrylic hemisphere.

Two models of the OverDome are now available for Illum owners, one with an overhead opening and a mid-angle version providing a perspective of approx. 35°.

OverDome Light Diffusing Photography Enclosures now available for LYTRO ILLUM
Viewpoint Laboratories, LLC, announced today that it has expanded its line of OverDome Light Diffusing Photography Enclosures to support the LYTRO ILLUM camera, providing uniform illumination for light-field close-up photography.

PRLog – Aug. 13, 2014 – PUTNAM, Conn. — Viewpoint Laboratories today announced that its popular line of OverDome Light Diffusing Photography Enclosures has been expanded to support the LYTRO ILLUM camera from Lytro, Inc.

“Our OverDome products are targeted at customers, particularly amateur photographers, who need a handy solution for professional-quality uniform illumination for close-up photography, even under uncontrolled conditions like a classroom or outdoors,” said a spokesperson for the company. “The OverDome products, translucent white acrylic hemispheres, provide an aperture for either an overhead view or a ‘mid-angle’ view at approximately 35 degrees. These geometries minimize unwanted shadows, reflections and glare.”

“We took the opportunity to expand our product line to support the new LYTRO ILLUM light-field camera,” said the spokesperson. “The differentiating feature is a 3.5 inch (89 mm) aperture sufficiently large for the lens of the LYTRO ILLUM.”

Viewpoint Laboratories now offers 12-inch diameter OverDome models for the LYTRO ILLUM with the overhead and mid-angle aperture locations. “We believe the illumination control provided by the OverDome will be important for close-up photography with the LYTRO ILLUM, especially since software post-processing options are limited. It’s crucial that the lighting be optimal at the start, and our products provide this in a hassle-free way.”
