Lytro Camera Accessories: LED Artificial Lighting for your LightField Camera
One of the limitations of Lytro’s LightField Camera is the fact that it has no internal flash or light to help in low light situations.
The new manual controls are a way to overcome some of these situations. Nevertheless, despite the value of ambient light, natural lighting and shadows, sometimes the available light is just not enough.
If you have some free time, you can easily make your own LED ring light for about 10 $.
For those who want something more professional, we present two (almost) off-the-shelf solutions for artificial Lytro lighting:
LED Ring Light: JJC LED-60
The JJC LED-60 is a dimmable LED ring light recommended to us by Lytro-Fan Axel Schuch. It comes with a number of filter adapter rings, one of which fits the camera almost exactly and works perfectly with a bit of self-made lining. The LED-60 works with both batteries and external DC power.
It’s available here for about 65 $ (49.99 € excl. shipping).
The picture above shows Axel’s setup, including the LED ring light, Lytro Tripod Mount, and 3-axis water level.
LED Arrays
John Neel from pixiq uses a Manfrotto LED array (similar arrays are available from a number of other manufacturers), and mounts it to the camera with the Lytro Tripod Mount and a few items from the hardware store (1/4 20 screw threaded rod, 1/4″ washers, 1/4 20 nuts).
Good ideas. I went on Ebay and bought a LED video light 160LED array… I am going to mount it on camera bracket which will mount to the Lytro via tripod socket…
