lytro LF depth of field

Hi,
I am playing around with my lytro LF for a coule of months now and I would like to do some more with the pictures I got.
What I would like to do is a 3D scene based on a depth map. Has anyone experiences with that?
I am working in Matlab using a depth map based on the depth look up table. It works pretty well but I am pretty sure that the depth resolution can be increased. I am also wondering in witch way the lambda values correspond to the object or focal planes in the scene.

Has anyone tried similar stuff? I have seen some interesting things in the web, For example:

kind regards,
robert

You seem very proficient already. I have no experience at all with this but what you are doing looks similar to what is also available in Blender which is free and extremely powerful. Perhaps you can find the features you want in it.
