Lytro Camera: features we´d love to see
on: 2012/08/21 16:15

Being a very young first-generation product, the Lytro LightField camera is currently limited to a very basic set of features, software refocus and picture rotation being the most notable software features, while the hardware offers just optical zoom.
As you've probably read, additional software features such as 3D and parallax/perspective are currently in the works and to be released later this year. The camera also sports a WiFi chipset, which is deactivated so far.

What features do you miss the most, and what would you most like to see in a software update or next-generation camera?

Lots:
1) Remote shutter release!!!!! Without it cripples the camera for precision work.
2) Delay variable timer for time shutter release up to 20 seconds
3) manual override controls for exposure F stops
4) Interchangeable lens mount in NEX or m4/3 mount
5)Foveon sensor
6) Tripod mount integrated
7) Available to ship outside the USA... I am Canadian ... closest trading partner under NAFTA yet will not ship to Canada so I had to buy my from Ebay which cost me as much as new.... crazy
8) Don't like the rectangle box design... make it look like a conventional camera... remember all good designs converge in time.... there is good reason why a camera looks the way it looks today...
9) The viewing screen is way too small... hurts my eyes looking at it trying to critical focus... screen is next to useless... get a 3" screen!
10) Have the ability to interface a microscope/ telescope
The current lens is mediocre to poor for macro shots.... Nikon 990/995/4500 lens are much better for that in comparison... I have built microcams out of the Nikons a while back....

11) I am sure I can think up a few more as I play with this Lytro camera that is a day old....

you've got a lot of good points!
some comments:
1) a little birdie told me that this may be possible with future firmware updates.
3) this would be great. at least, it's possible to tap-set exposure on your subject in Everyday Mode
4) a lens mount would definitely open up a whole new world of lightfield photography.
9) agree. if lytro wants to stick with the current design, another option may be a high-resolution display. however, a bigger display would also improve touch interacting.

Thanks for the response Markus. I went ahead and I will push the original design of the Lytro to suit my needs to image super macro applications as I have built and optics lab in the basement. Too bad Raytrix cost so much compared to Lytro. I prefer to shoot all my images in full manual mode as I use specialized manual lens. I would not mind if the Lytro can be tethered via usb to computer and direct image to computer complete with live view function.
