LightField displays

Hello!

My first post here, please be gentle...

So, how's the research on LightField displays?
Plenoptic photography is great, but obviously, if we could show the obtained light fields directly onto a display, the effects should be astounding!
Do you people know of any research in that area?
This idea is too obvious so probably there’s something I am missing, but, placing a microlenses array in front of a PC monitor looks like a first approach, right?
The lenses should be bigger than the ones used in front of the sensor, it would require calibration, and it would require watching from a distance (until screen DPIs decrease even further)… but it seems doable to me.

What do you think?

Thanks for listening!

Xavi
